The Illinois Senate has passed a resolution to honor Charlie Kirk, a radio host and advocate for the First Amendment, following his death. The resolution was filed by State Senator Steve McClure (R-Springfield) and received unanimous approval on October 16, 2025.

“Charlie Kirk was murdered for sharing his political views in a public place,” said Senator McClure. “He dedicated his life to healthy political discourse, and he encouraged so many college students across the country to participate in debates on important issues.”

Senate Resolution 427 formally mourns Kirk’s passing and extends condolences from the Senate to his family, friends, and others who knew him. The resolution also states that a copy will be presented to Kirk’s family “as an expression of our deepest sympathy.”

Kirk, born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, in 1993, founded Turning Point USA. The organization grew nationally as Kirk became known as an author, speaker, and talk radio host.

Kirk was killed on September 10, 2025, when he was shot by a sniper during a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University.

“There is no place for political violence in this country and, while Charlie Kirk was murdered to silence him, his voice is now louder than ever,” said McClure.

McClure, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2023 to represent the 54th Senate District, succeeding Sam McCann.
