Statewide test results: 38 percent of Breese failed English language arts

Scores12

About 62 percent of Breese Elementary School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2017 and 38 percent of students failed, according to a South Central Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Breese Elementary School English language scores, about 50 percent met expectations and 12 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 22 percent approached expectations, while 12 percent partially met expectations and 5 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Breese Elementary School, which enrolled 446 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
