In a hard-fought primary election, Blaine Wilhour has won in the Republican nomination for state representative in District 107.
After all the votes were counted, Wilhour emerged with approximately 6,300 votes, while his opponent Laura Myers had 4,143 votes.
It's a significant win for Wilhour, who is hoping to capture the seat being vacated by Rep. John Cavaletto (R-Salem).
In previous interviews with South Central Reporter, Wilhour has suggested that the state government is “broken” and that serious financial reforms are past due.
“I have just grown weary of sitting on the sidelines watching as our government squanders all of our advantages and opportunities,” Wilhour said March 8. “We are an asset-rich state and there is no excuse for us to be in the terrible financial situation we are in.
Wilhour has also supported term limits and other reforms.
He's called for the legislature to control spending and grow the state economy in fiscally responsible ways.
This includes property tax reform and pension reform.
“I have spent my entire career in the private sector,” Wilhour said in the same interview with South Central Reporter. “I have started a business from scratch, risked my own capital. I have a proven track record when it comes to leading, managing, creating jobs in our region and getting results. I think that we need to send more folks like that to Springfield -- people that know what it takes to win in the real economy because they have done it.”
