Nokomis Area Fire Protection District responded to 31 calls in 2017 - 55 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Nokomis Area included 26 fires - 13 structure fires, three vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $106,500 in fire loss - or about $4,096 per fire.

The department also received five false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian non-fire deaths. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Nokomis Area Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $98,005 in 2017.
