HSHS St. Joseph?s Hospital Breese issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.
Beginning August 27, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese will begin offering free transportation to medical appointments and more in Breese. The service will be available for those living in a 25-mile radius of the hospital. This service is available to anyone in the service area and riders do not need to patients of the hospital.
Supported by the HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation, the Friends Van program will provide free transportation for medical, dental, and personal appointments. Medical appointments take priority, which include visits to physicians, dentists, chiropractors, pharmacies and St. Joseph’s Hospital. Medical appointments may be scheduled at any time, while personal appointments must be scheduled two days in advance.
The Friends Van will also provide transportation to those who need a ride home or to the nursing home once they have been discharged from the hospital.
“We are blessed to have been provided with the opportunity to provide transportation to and from medical appointments and other destinations, assisting our community members in their pursuit of maintaining a healthy and well balanced lifestyle,” said Chris Klay, President and CEO of HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital. It is our hope that this service will help relieve the long-standing burden of transportation for those individuals who have difficulties maintaining their healthcare obligations.”
Earlier in the year, HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital Breese received a $50,000 charitable gift designated for medical transportation services from the Healthcare Foundation. The $50,000 gift was used to start the program, and through donations and grants, the HSHS St. Joseph’s Foundation will sustain the program costs moving forward, including staffing, maintenance, gas, etc.
