TAYLORVILLE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: TMH Construction Well Underway

Construction(1000)

Taylorville Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Oct. 1.

Construction on the new 97,000-square-foot building is well underway at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. After the relocation of the sewer line, crews have been working through the summer heat and rain to dig and pour the foundation. Minor demolition to the old front entrance on the south side of the existing hospital has also begun. The Sacred Heart of Jesus statue, originally donated to the hospital by employees many years ago, has been safely removed and is being restored. It will be placed in the existing courtyard by the end of the year.

The first truckloads of steel beams have arrived and the iron workers are already beginning to frame the new two-story structure. Steel framing of the structure should be completed by the end of October, ahead of the winter weather and colder temperatures. At that time, appropriate tenting will be erected so brickwork can be laid while work continues on the interior of the new building.

Thus far, construction has provided little inconvenience to patients and visitors to the hospital. The laboratory, emergency department and main lobby entrances are still open with ample parking available.
