Retired Panhandle CUSD 2 employee Randy Brown saved $29,621 toward his pension over 15 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.
Over 35 years of retirement, Brown would collect as much as $1.086 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes South Central Reporter.
Brown, 60, who currently lives in Farmersville, earned $140 in his final year at Panhandle CUSD 2.
The projection assumes Brown will receive $16,831 in his first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.
After three years of retirement, Brown will have already received $52,023 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of his contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), 28.5 percent of Panhandle CUSD 2 students met or exceeded the standards for the "PARCC" exams. ISBE reported that 54.2 percent of district's graduates were deemed "college ready" last year.
