Republican state Senate candidate Seth McMillan has challenged his opponent, Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill), to five debates — but Manar has only agreed to one of them.

“What is he hiding?” McMillan asked recently in a video posted on Facebook.

The video shows a close-up of noisy chickens strutting in and out of a hen house, as the voiceover mentions possible reasons Manar has avoided multiple debates:

Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill)

  • “That he raised taxes when he said he wouldn’t?"
  • “That he’s never voted for a balanced budget?”
  • “That he’s worked for Chicago politicians like Mike Madigan for 20 years?”
“I’ll debate you anywhere, anytime, Andy,” McMillan said. “If not, I have a fill-in right here,” he adds, pointing to a live chicken under his arm.

“You just can’t trust Andy Manar,” the voiceover states.

McMillan and Manar are running for the 48th Senate District, which includes Christian, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery and Sangamon counties.
