Diabetes test

Hillsboro Area Hospital issued the following announcement on Nov. 20.

Dr. Andrew Ott, DPM, AACFAS has joined the Hillsboro Area Hospital staff as a Hillsboro-raised, award-winning podiatrist and will be providing free foot and ankle screenings for diabetics from 8am-noon on Saturday, December 15th at Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Please call 217.532.6266 to make an appointment with Dr. Andrew Ott for your free diabetic foot and ankle screening!

Dr. Ott graduated from Hillsboro High School in 2005 and attended Blackburn College as an all-conference linebacker and 2008 semifinalist for the National Football Foundation’s William V. Campbell trophy. He moved on to Des Moines University where, in 2014, he graduated with a doctorate in podiatric medicine and surgery as class vice president, a teaching assistant at the medical school, and a member of the Council of Presidents and Curriculum Committee.

He has returned to Hillsboro after completing his residency in New York City at New York Presbyterian Queens where he earned the highest score in the country on the American Board of Podiatric Medicine in-training exam as a third-year resident and chief resident in his 4th and final year of residency. His residency was primarily devoted to reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, but also covered all aspects of general podiatry as well; including advanced training with internal and external fixation techniques, reconstructive adult foot and ankle surgery, arthroscopy, limb salvage, pediatric foot deformities, sports-related injuries, trauma, plastic surgery, dermatopathology and wound care of the lower extremity.

Dr. Ott’s plan was always to come back home because he saw a need in the area. His many specialties and passion to help his community is a major benefit for Hillsboro Area Hospital and its surrounding residents. He is most excited to provide the community with "local access to several services that, in the past, were only available in Springfield or St. Louis. People will now have an opportunity to have surgical procedures performed at Hillsboro Area Hospital that were never available in the past."
