Illinois State House District 107 issued the following announcement on Aug. 26.

State Representative Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) is helping to promote the transportation grants available for 4th through 12th grade students in Illinois to visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) in Springfield. The grants can be up to $1,500 and must be applied for by October 15th and be used between January 2 through December 21, 2020.

“Our students are fortunate to live within driving distance to the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and teachers who would like to incorporate this museum trip into their lesson plans involving history should apply,” explained Rep. Blaine Wilhour. “I would also encourage schools to make a trip to the Historic Vandalia State House here in the 107th District where notable people like Lincoln actually served in the Illinois legislature between 1836 and 1839.”

With the generous support from the Winnick Family Foundation, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation provides grant funding for field trips to the ALPLM for grades 4-12. Grants cover transportation costs for public and private schools with a low-income enrollment of greater than 30 percent. Students will be able to learn about Abraham Lincoln’s life, times, and legacy, as well as issues that have changed the course of Illinois and American history.
