Illinois State House District 95 issued the following announcement on Sept. 5.
Thanks in part to the role she played in this spring’s critical investment in Illinois’ infrastructure and economic future, State Representative Avery Bourne (R-Raymond) announced she received the Friend of Infrastructure Award from the Transportation for Illinois Coalition (TFIC).
“This capital plan is more than just an investment in our roads and bridges, it’s an investment in our communities,” Rep. Bourne said. “This increased funding goes to our local township, county, and municipal roads. This plan also supports jobs here locally and supports local businesses like PBI Redi-Mix that we visited today. Supporting the capital bill was a difficult vote, but ultimately one for a stronger economy and a safer Illinois. I appreciate the recognition from our friends at TFIC.”
Funding shortfalls over the past decades have caused many painful problems throughout Illinois’ transportation system: dangerous potholes, deteriorating bridges, and real safety concerns. In May, Illinois passed the state’s first capital program in 10 years and the largest investment in the state’s infrastructure to date.
Rep. Bourne received the award at PBI Redi-Mix and Trucking in Taylorville, where she also received a tour of the facility. Also present were Christian County Engineer Cliff Frye, Jim Randolph of the Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Kevin Burke of the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association and co-chair of TFIC, and TFIC Managing Director Jennifer Morrison.
TFIC is an umbrella organization of business, labor and transportation groups advocating for nearly 20 years in Springfield for transportation investment. The Friend of Infrastructure Award honors lawmakers like Rep. Bourne who supported the funding to fix our crumbling transportation infrastructure.
“After Illinois’ recent history of dysfunction, the historic and bipartisan vote for infrastructure investment sends a strong and positive message to residents and taxpayers,” writes Morrison in a letter included with the Friend of Infrastructure Award. “Elected officials believe in Illinois and its future and are here to make sure investments that benefit all citizens are made in a responsible way. Thank you for your leadership!”
