TAYLORVILLE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Healthy Diet Habits Discussed at Hickory Estates

Healthyfoods760

Taylorville Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 6.

Taylorville Memorial Hospital dietitian Janelle Cornell, RD, LDN, recently spoke with the residents of Hickory Estates on reducing their salt intake.

Residents learned about the importance of cutting out salt and salty foods for heart health, especially for those with high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. They discussed some of the menu alternatives available to the residents to avoid the higher sodium choices or just eat a smaller portion. They also discussed using salt-free seasonings of their choice.

“Even though their meals are provided at the Estates, they can still do their part,” said Cornell. “I encouraged them to limit the amount of salt they add to their food and avoid eating high sodium snacks and foods they may have in their apartment.”

Residents were given a shaker of salt-free seasoning blends to use as they see fit.

Taylorville Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital located at 201 E. Pleasant Street in Taylorville and is an affiliate of Memorial Health System. For more information about TMH, visit TaylorvilleMemorial.org.
