HSHS Holy Family Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 20.
HSHS Holy Family Hospital is now offering photoreactive vaporization of the prostate (PVP). Laser PVP surgery is a minimally invasive treatment for an enlarged prostate. PVP is a faster recovery and immediate symptom relief procedure now being offered to the local community.
PVP is a non-invasive procedure that uses a laser to remove excess tissue that is blocking urine flow through the prostate. This type of surgery avoids any cutting or scrapping of the tissue. A PVP procedure is also the best option for men who have blood-clotting conditions or those who may take blood thinners.
“This procedure provides a quick recovery with reduced pain and minimal side effects,” said David Bitzer, MD, board certified urologist for HSHS Medical Group. “This non-invasive procedure doesn’t require any incisions and allows for most patients to be released within 24 hours.”
