Illinois State House District 107 issued the following announcement on April 15.
State Rep. Blaine Wilhour has been named to the ‘Economic Recovery’ Working Group to help develop a plan to move Illinois’ economy forward after this coronavirus emergency. House Republican Leader Jim Durkin has identified Rep. Wilhour to serve on the working group because of his work on the House Labor & Commerce Committee and his real life experience as a small business owner.
“Coming out of this temporary and artificially imposed economic slow-down in Illinois, we have both an obligation to help shape a plan to accelerate our economy to a healthy position with good paying jobs for people and we have an opportunity to reform and rethink our regulations, business incentives, fees, and taxes,” said Rep. Blaine Wilhour. “Many businesses have not closed completely but changed their business models to adapt how they provide goods and services with some distancing through ‘by appointment’ processes or new delivery services.”
The Economic Recovery Working Group is expected to meet by video conferencing for the first time this week to begin gathering data related to unemployment numbers, hospital cases, supply-chain data from trucking companies, and agriculture and manufacturing needs. The information will help with the development of public policy proposals that will then help with the economic recovery of Illinois.
“An economic recovery for Illinois will need to include getting people back to work whether at their former jobs or in new opportunities. We need to get government out of the way of the entrepreneurial spirit and rebuild our economy as soon as possible,” added Rep. Wilhour.
