Kaskaskia College has signed an articulation agreement with Western Illinois University so they students who earn an Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) Degree in Music can transfer to Western Illinois University and finish a bachelor's degree.
Kellie Henegar, dean of Arts and Sciences at Kaskaskia College, said the college is excited to enter the agreement with WIU. She credited the music faculty at each school for working tirelessly to make the transition for transferring students as seamless as possible.
“This type of collaboration is what ensures our student’s success transferring to their four-year institution,” Henegar said. "I would like to thank Professors Cliff Jourdan and Lynda Marshall for their leadership in these efforts. We look forward to continued conversations with WIU on future 2+2 music articulations agreements."
The college announced the agreement does not pertain to students working on a baccalaureate degree in Music or Music Business.
Courtney Blankenship, associate professor and director of Music Business at WIU, emphasized the importance of these types of agreements.
“These types of curricula are part of a concerted effort to work with Illinois community colleges such as KC, reduce barriers while maintaining standards, and to increase the likelihood of music students transferring to WIU to continue their education while staying in Illinois,” Blankenship said.
Last year, Kaskaskia College had 39 agreements with four-year colleges and universities. That number has now grown to 150.
