Chicago (29,535 cases) and Cook County (20,701 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,248, while Cook County recorded 949 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 399,714, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 50 to 59, with 13,731 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 35,272 were male and 36,862 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 1,826, while female deaths stood at 1,410.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,387 Hispanics, 137 Asians, 1,387 whites, 1,063 African-Americans, and 135 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
