Chicago (25,805 cases) and Cook County (17,910 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 1,021, while Cook County recorded 781 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 333,147, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 50 to 59, with 12,063 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 30,600 were male and 31,931 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 1,531, while female deaths stood at 1,129.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 1,116 African-Americans, 389 Hispanics, 112 Asians, 1,116 whites, and 134 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
