Hillsboro FD responds to 18 fires in 2018

Hillsboro Fire District responded to 42 calls in 2018 - 2.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Hillsboro included 18 fires - eight structure fires, three vehicle fires and seven other fires.

In all, the department saw $298,450 in fire loss - or about $16,581 per fire.

The department also received 24 false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian non-fire injuries and one civilian non-fire death.

The Hillsboro Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has five active employees and four retired or inactive employees, was $57,002 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,280 for every fire in 2017.
