Madison County Board member Don Moore frets House Speaker Mike Madigan is all about self-preservation.
“He will use anything, even the COVID virus, to shield himself from some of the tough questions he faces about his behavior,” Moore told the South Central Reporter. “It’s just the way he operates.”
Moore argues Illinois legislative leaders recently cancelling the fall Veto Session slated to begin this month is just the latest example. Since the cancellation was announced, staffers from Madigan’s office have stepped forward to claim they have the backing of a “strong majority” of House Democrats in light of the situation.
Moore sees it as just more of the same dysfunction that has left the state in the dire straits it now finds itself.
“He should be making every effort to make sure the work of the people is being done,” he said. “We deserve answers about what our lawmakers are doing to get this state back on track.”
As for Madigan, Moore argues voters also deserve answers.
The state’s longest-tenured lawmaker, Madigan now finds himself in the middle of a still evolving federal corruption where bribes are alleged to have been funneled to him in exchange for favorable legislation.
Moore has long ago blasted Springfield as a swamp, with Madigan right at the center of much of it.
“It’s certainly more typical than not typical, just look at all the governors before that have gone to prison for malfeasance and wrongdoing,” he said. “Chicago politics is a swamp that just continues to fester with Democrats in control and doing everything they can to stay in power.”
