City of Greenville recently issued the following announcement.
In celebration of the upcoming holiday season, the City of Greenville will host a holiday decorations and lighting contest for residents and businesses through the month of December.
Registration is required for participation and is open through November 30. Residential and business contest participants are asked to register online at GreenvilleIlilnois.com or at the Greenville Municipal Building at 404 S. Third St. The contest asks participants to have their exterior holiday decor and lights in place by December 1, 2020 and remain in place until December 31.
Contest judges will choose one residential winner and one commercial winner. In addition, a “Fan Favorite” will be selected through online voting on the City of Greenville’s Facebook page. Winners will receive $50 in BoCo Bucks, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce gift certificate program. One registered participant will be randomly selected to receive a $50 credit on their City of Greenville water bill.
For spectators, a unique feature of this year’s contest includes navigational assistance through the Google Maps app for smartphones. Starting December 1, visitors can go to GreenvilleIllinois.com to find a hyperlink that will easily and efficiently navigate the viewer to each registered home or business. A hard-copy list of participating addresses will be available at the Greenville Municipal Building and GreenvilleIllinois.com on the first of December.
Contest organizer and Director of Tourism Jes Adam said of the contest, “This year continues to be full of surprises. The holiday season is a terrific opportunity to showcase our community pride and spirit. I am encouraging all residents and businesses to participate so we can make this season extra special for us all.” Contact Jes Adam with contest questions at 618-664-1644.
