Centralia School District 135 Board met Aug. 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Members Present: Ron Johnson, Blake Griffin, Jeremy Martin, Derek Harlan, Lyle Gross, and Sue Williams

Members Absent: Renae Bauer

Also Present: Supt. Craig E. Clark, Asst. Supt. Chris Becker, Mike Middleton, Todd Marver, and Caden Cole

Board President Johnson called the regular meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.

MOTION #1:

It was moved by Gross and seconded by Martin to adjourn to closed session to discuss employment of specific personnel. Motion carried.

Adjourned to closed session at 6:04 p.m.

Reconvened to open session at 7:18 p.m.

MOTION #2:

It was moved by Griffin and seconded by Martin to approve the consent agenda as follows:

1. Approval of minutes of regular meeting held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

2. Approval of bills in the amount of $572,449.80.

3. Approval of August payroll.

4. Approval of the resolution declaring no changes to the hazardous bus routes for the 2020-2021 school year.

5. Approval to adopt a resolution declaring surplus property and the destruction of the surplus property. Motion carried.

MOTION #3:

It was moved by Martin and seconded by Gross to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.

BOARD COMMITTEE REPORTS

CURRICULUM REPORT

Asst. Supt. Chris Becker gave an update and overview of the return to school plan and remote learning plan.

NEW BUSINESS

MOTION #4:

It was moved by Williams and seconded by Harlan to accept the resignation of Casey Beckmann, Speech-Language Pathologist. Motion carried.

MOTION #5:

It was moved by Gross and seconded by Harlan to employ Elizabeth Bishop as Sixth Grade Science Teacher. Motion carried.

MOTION #6:

It was moved by Martin and seconded by Griffin to employ Rodney Mays as Fourth and Fifth Grade Music and Chorus Director. Motion carried.

MOTION #7:

It was moved by Gross and seconded by Martin to employ Rita Poore as Schiller School Title I Paraprofessional. Motion carried.

MOTION #8:

It was moved by Griffin and seconded by Martin to employ Annette Nattier as Jordan School Title I Paraprofessional. Motion carried.

MOTION #9:

It was moved by Harlan and seconded by Gross to employ Trisha Niepoetter as Jordan School Nurse. Motion carried.

MOTION #10:

It was moved by Martin and seconded by Harlan to employ the following bus monitors contingent upon results of background checks:

MOTION #11:

It was moved by Griffin and seconded by Martin to employ Sherry Kirkman as Speech-Language Pathologist. Motion carried.

MOTION #12:

It was moved by Martin and seconded by Griffin to grant a leave of absence to Employee #00506. Motion carried.

MOTION #13:

It was moved by Harlan and seconded by Gross to grant a leave of absence to Employee #1535. Motion carried.

MOTION #14:

It was moved by Griffin and seconded by Gross to approve the In-Person and Remote Learning Plan. Motion carried.

MOTION #15:

It was moved by Harlan and seconded by Martin to approve the Building Handbooks. Motion carried.

MOTION #16:

It was moved by Griffin and seconded by Martin to approve the purchase of a new district work truck from Monken Chevrolet. Motion carried.

MOTION #17:

It was moved by Williams and seconded by Gross to approve the contract with the Urban Learning and Leadership Center (ULLC) for the 2020-2021 school year. Motion carried.

MOTION #18:

It was moved by Martin and seconded by Gross to approve the contract with the Community Resource Center for the 2020-2021 school year to provide mental health specialists. Motion carried.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Supt. Clark reported on the following:

1.A Budget Hearing will be held before the September 8, 2020 Board Meeting.

2.Don Ford had reported that we received an additional $31,918.00 from eRate.

3.Installation of the solar panels behind C.J.H.S. is underway

4.Progress with the C.J.H.S. gym renovation was reviewed, as well as updates with the gym at Schiller.

5.Meetings with the unions regarding the return to school have gone well.

Supt. Clark expressed his appreciation to all involved.
