City of Centralia Tourism Commission met Oct. 20.

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m.
Attendance: Rob Jackson, Mary Davis, Mike Schroeder, Sonya Germann, Tom Walsh, Jessiycka Nix Coleman, Melissa Rae Roach, and Rae Ann Quidgeon
Absent: Robert “Spanky” Smith
Advisory Staff Present: Lowell Crow, City Manager City of Centralia; Katie Plutz, Assistant City Manager City of Centralia
Others Present: Marcus Holland, Executive Director Centralia Chamber; Gayla Harting, Director of Community Development City of Centralia; Becca Deomes; and John Stuehmeier, Historic Preservation Commission
Public Comment: Harting, on behalf of the Historic Preservation Commission, presented to the Tourism Commission asking for preparation assistance on an upcoming event. It was decided that a subcommittee would be formed to help the Historic Preservation Commission in their efforts to contact owners of historic buildings in Centralia.
Minutes: Quidgeon moved, and Germann seconded the approval of the minutes from September 15, 2020. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Walsh reported the balance as of September 30, 2020 at $12,244.15. Schroeder moved and Coleman seconded the motion to approve the treasurer’s report, and the motion passed.
Discussion was also held during this time about the upcoming budget.
Ongoing Business: Coleman reported that the website refresh subcommittee’s focus is on making updates and making sure events are submitted to the website. Discussion was initiated by Germann and held about how ILLINOISouth Tourism is no longer receiving updates from the website.
New Business: Discussion was held about the Christmas Decorating Challenge. The event has already been posted on the See Centralia Facebook page. It was decided that participants will have their addresses in by December 1, 2020, and judging will take place December 2nd and 3rd. It was also decided that eligible participants must reside within two miles of City Hall.
Discussions were also held about the Nutcracker Stroll setup. It was decided that setup would take place on November 23, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Centralia Carillon office. Discussions were also held about the Christmas Stroll event, and Quidgeon mentioned that participating businesses will organize their own check-ins and prizes.
Discussion: Discussion was held by Becca Deomes regarding the Spring Kick-Off event idea. Deomes discussed that the purpose of the event would be to promote restaurants. It was decided that a subcommittee will be formed to organize this event. Jackson initiated discussions about bringing a photographer back, and Crow mentioned that a photographer is still budgeted for. Jackson also mentioned that the Centralia Philharmonic Orchestra has offered services for upcoming events.
Adjournment: Schroeder motioned to adjourn meeting and Coleman seconded. The meeting adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
