State Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) is sponsoring a bill that would obligate all abortion clinics in Illinois to offer any woman seeking an abortion after 8 weeks of gestation the opportunity to view an active ultrasound prior to the procedure being performed.
Jacobs, a physician by trade, is the sole sponsor of House Bill 683, which would formally create the Ultrasound Opportunity Act. The measure would apply to attending physicians, referring physicians or other qualified personnel.
Jacobs admits part of his motivation for pushing the bill is so that women will have every opportunity to think through their decision before going through with an abortion.
After running on a pro-life platform, Jacobs won his seat in the 115th District last November with nearly 78% of the vote.
HB 683 is now in the House Human Service Committee awaiting a hearing.
