State Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) is imploring Illinois parents to stand up for what they believe in when it comes to their opposition to House Bill 1797.

“Please fill out a witness slip against this,” Wilhour posted to Facebook of a bill that would eliminate the law requiring parents be notified in advance of their daughter having an abortion. “This legislation would strip away even notification.”

Wilhour points to a recent poll touted by Illinois Right to Life in which the overwhelming majority of state residents are in favor of the current law requiring parents to be notified before any procedure is performed as an example of why they need to make sure their voices are now heard on the issue.

Sponsored by Democratic Reps. Anna Moeller, Kelly Cassidy, Margaret Croke, Gregory Harris and Chris Welch, the bill was recently assigned to the Human Services Committee.
