State Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) called House Resolution 132 condemning state Rep. Chris Miller (R-Oakland) slanderous.
Pointing out that the recent investigation conducted by Legislative Inspector General Carol Pope found the allegations that Miller helped incite the Jan. 6 riot in Washington “unfounded,” Wilhour insisted the resolution's allegations are false and imprudent.
“To condemn a sitting member of this body, this resolution contains serious claims about violations of oath and the constitution in the months since this resolution was adopted,” Wihour said. The legislative inspector general has performed a full investigation into these allegations and the result of that investigation was a complete exoneration from the reckless and irresponsible accusations that were levied in the condemnation resolution.”
Wilhour urged that the resolution be removed.
“Words matter,” Wilhour continued. “Facts matter. We talk about this stuff a lot and in light of this report from the legislative inspector general I would ask that the sponsor, Rep. (Bob) Morgan (D-Highwood) do the right and respectful thing by a fellow representative and remove this false and slanderous resolution from the record.
The Democrats have requested an investigation after videos of Miller saying “Whether we will remain a free people under free market capitalism or whether they will put us under the tyranny of socialism and communism and dangerous Democrat terrorists,” surfaced. A photo of his pickup truck parked at the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot, with a Three Percenters logo has also caught the attention of the Democrats.
“I have never been a member of the 3 Percenters,” Miller said. “My son received the sticker that was on my truck from a family friend who said that it represented patriotism and love of country.”
Pope was prohibited from commenting on her investigation, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
It was also reported that in her investigation, Pope noted that she was “satisfied” that it wasn’t Miller’s plan to topple the government.
