City of Salem Historical Commission met April 19.

CALL TO ORDER
The Historical Commission met at the Salem Area Historical Museum. Chairman Luke Purcell called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the presence of commission members Diane Eller, Betty Purcell, Don Mills, Megan Holler and recording Secretary Courtney Mitchell. Councilman-Elect Royce Bringwald later joined.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Don Mills made a motion to approve the minutes. Betty Purcell seconded the motion. All members present were in favor and the motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
See attached Financial Reports provided by Finance Director, Keli Barrow.
Luke Purcell will talk with Keli about what expenses are coming out and how the funds are being handled.

BUSINESS
a. Museum Building Updates: Luke Purcell reported that he and some of the guys from Public works moved the Sweney cabinet from City Hall to the museum; Jo Stallings is ready to bring the June Goldsboro items. He believes the next step is to decide where to start putting everything.
Diane Eller asked about the security system and possibly getting UV protectant on the windows. Luke will talk to City Manager Rex Barbee.
Royce Bringwald joined the meeting and stated he may have some railroad artifacts that he can loan or donated to the museum.
b. Cemetery Tour: Diane Eller reported that she’s going to meet with Nick and Cody at the cemetery to find the graves of those being portrayed. She is currently researching the characters. She has John & Lisa Stephenson to portray John & Besty Joels and Karen Short will portray Lulu Hall.
Chairman Luke Purcell reported that he spoke with Drew Johnson and he is willing to help. He also spoke with Neil Smith, Little Egypt Golf Carts, and they will donate the golf carts.
Diane Eller made a motion to hold the tour on October 8 & 9. Don Mills seconded the motion. All members present were in favor and the motion carried.
COMMISSION MEMBER’S REPORT
Randy Melchert from WVCY TV, a Christian television station in in Milwaukee, WI, visited the Bryan home and interview Luke. He is doing a piece “Christian Leaders in History”. He will send a copy to the commission when it’s complete. Luke also reported that the home is in better shape than expected after the water leak and the heat is repaired.
