City of Centralia Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee met May 13.

Public Participation: None
Approval of Minutes: Agee made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and Lawson seconded. Motion carried with unanimously.
Treasurers Report: Gayla gave the Treasurers report. She stated that we had received the Geary Foundation donation. Lawson made the motion to accept the report and Agee seconded. Motion carried with unanimously.
Ongoing Business:
1. Fairview Pool- CM Langenfeld reported that due to the cost of maintaining the pool and the amount of funds needed to renovate the pool, at this time the pool does not look like it will be opening. Langenfeld stated that the City and Complex will be in working together on an agreement. Currently there are no grants of funds available to pursue to assist in this project. The new City Council will be determining what will happen in the future. Graham asked about future and Langenfeld stated that there have been ideas talked about but no set plans. Graham asked what the cost would be to fix the problems and Langenfeld stated between 4-6 million.
2. Goals/Responsibilities- no additions
3. Juneteenth- The event is scheduled for June 19th. Gayla reported that Calvin and Carleka have been meeting, planning the event. Gayla reported that our committee will oversee the cooking from 11 – 2pm. She will be sending out a sign-up sheet for workers. Carleka said they are still looking for entertainment, vendors, and activities for the day. She reported that there will be a fish fry and pork steak from 11am to 5pm. Calvin mentioned that the sign to the park really needs repainted and repaired. Gayla stated that she will submit this to Pat to have completed by June 19th. He also committed on the Basketball courts need to be cleaned and repainted. Carleka also stated that in the morning at 8:30 to 9:30 there will be a Zumba class and Boxing workout. Young will also have Bingo and she is needed prizes for the Bingo.
4. CRC report- Scott submitted an informational page on the current stats on registration for Baseball, Softball and Tball. The season will begin the first week of June. We had 188 register. Did not have enough register for Bronco, Mustang, and Pony league so had to refund their money. We currently have 15 Team sponsors, but other business has not responded as of today. May 21, 22, & 23 the Super Sonics have a tournament at Rotary Park. July 9th, 10th & 11th is a Super Sonic tournament. GSA has 4 tournaments that are scheduled.
a. Scott reported that he had replaced the basketball nets at Laura Leeke in April.
5. Youth Center –
a. Herb reported that on May 21st is a work session for R-3 grant, May 22nd 2-4pm is the We Grant canvas.
b. June 19th at the Youth Center, COVID vaccine will be available for youth.
c. June 1st is a Blood Drive at the Youth Center.
d. May 13th and June 10th will be the Food Giveaway.
e. Tutor program is still on-going.
f. Summer Camp will be held from June 14th thru July 16th. They will be coordinating the days and time with the City of Centralia schools summer school. They will be having various field trips and activities.
g. Gayla thanked Herb for the donation toward the Youth Commission food drive.
h. Youth Summer Camp is needing to hire more staff and if anyone knows of someone send them to Herb.
New Business:
1. Sonya submitted a request from the Tennis Association.
a. Request to have the Pine trees on south side of Tennis courts removed- suggestion was made to trim the branches and see if that helps.
b. Power washes all 4 tennis courts and repaint. – suggestion for Pat to have all courts power washed. Painting would possible be in next year budget.
c. Request to put up backboard on East court south side fence – Will talk will Pat about and see if this can be done.

Goals and Responsibilities of
Parks and Recreation Committee
1. Recommendations of purchasing/replacing/removing of Playground equipment at all Parks.
2. Over see the Tennis courts, Basketball courts, Skateboard park, Horseshoe pits, Swimming pool and Pavilions at all Parks.
3. Oversee improvements at Laura Leeke Park, Fairview Park, Band Shell, Youth Center, Point Park at Raccoon Lake, and Dog Park.
4. Review and recommend any upgrades for All Parks.
5. Juneteenth Celebration
