State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) said he’s running for re-election for the 100th district in Illinois.
“We had a beautiful day to do our announcement tour around the 100th District,” Davidsmeyer wrote on Facebook. “Yesterday, I announced that I will be running to continue to represent the people of the 100th District. I appreciate everyone who was able to make it out to join me at the Pike, Greene, and Jersey County Courthouses; and also everyone who was able to join Rep. Amy Elik and I at our co-announcement in Godfrey.”
Democratic lawmakers redrew the state's legislative maps, making it harder for some Republicans to keep their seats. Winning the redrawn 100th District will be a challenge for Davidsmeyer.
"The Illinois Democrats drew a blatantly partisan map that would put Republicans against Republicans, forcing them to spend their time and resources fighting among themselves,” he said, according to the Telegraph. “I am here to tell you that I am not going to do that. In order for Illinois to create opportunities for the next generation, we need balance, not one-party rule.”
Davidsmeyer's hometown won't be in his district – as the new mapping removes Jacksonville to the 99th District.
He became the assistant Republican Leader for the 102nd General Assembly earlier this year.
“I am honored to continue to serve as (the) assistant Republican leader for our caucus,” Davidsmeyer told ABC Newschannel 20. “It is important that conservative values are heard when legislation is debated in Springfield. I have always spoken my mind on legislation and policies to share their effects on our state and our region.”
Davidsmeyer is on the Public Utilities Committee, the Appropriations-Human Services Committee, to name a few. His term ends on Jan. 11, 2023.
Davidsmeyer was born and raised in Jacksonville and served on the city council from 2008-2012.
