Albers School District #63 Board of Education met Oct. 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Roll call shows: Athmer, absent; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present @ 7:25 PM; Richter, present @ 7:16 PM; Winterbottom, present. Everyone in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITORS

Dean Gauch, Rochelle Halstead, Kristie Weh, Kelly Klasing, Tim Catanzaro, Lori Catanzaro, Scott McDonald were present. Recording Secretary Janel Zurliene and Superintendent Mike Toeben were also present.

PUBLIC COMMENT

There was no comment.

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

Boeckmann made the motion to approve the agenda with the addition of new business – Bowling. Wuebbels made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

BOOSTER CLUB

• New officers include: Amy Haselhorst & Lori Catanzaro, Co-Presidents; Kelly Macias & Leigha Steuart, Co-Vice Presidents; Janine Albers-Hubert, Treasurer; Megan Porterfield, Secretary.

• A SCRIP order will be offered monthly. Contact Christelle Bretz for more information.

• Movie in the Park on Friday, October 22, 2021 was enjoyed by all.

• They will decorate prior to the Christmas concert.

COMMITTEE REPORTS & ASSIGNMENTS

• BUILDING & GROUNDS, Winterbottom, Boeckmann, Jung – There is nothing at this time.

• TECHNOLOGY, Athmer and Wuebbels – There is nothing at this time.

• SPORTS CO-OP/FRIENDS OF THE COUGARS - Richter, Boeckmann – There is nothing at this time.

• CAT TEAM – There is nothing at this time.

• FINANCE – Huegen, Wuebbels, Boeckmann

• KASKASKIA COLLEGE COMMITTEE – Huegen, Richter, Athmer

• SIP – There is nothing at this time.

• PARENT ADVISORY BOARD – There is nothing at this time.

TEACHER REPORTS

• There is nothing at this time.

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

Boeckmann made the motion to approve the minutes from the September 22, 2021 budget hearing, regular meeting, approve the financial report; approve the bills in the amount of $ 26,424.39. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Huegen, aye; Jung, absent; Richter, absent Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, absent; Boeckmann, aye.

OLD BUSINESS

• COVID – 19 UPDATES & PROCEDURES –Mr. Toeben shared information on current lawsuits within the state of Illinois. Everyone was given the opportunity to share their concerns regarding the mask policies and use of the masks at school. Boeckmann made the motion to allow parents & children to decide to wear masks at school. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call vote shows: Roll call vote shows: Richter, nay; Winterbottom, nay; Wuebbels, nay; Athmer, absent; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, nay. Students and staff will adhere to the mask mandate. A weekly report will be sent with the status of COVID cases and quarantines within the school.

• CARES ACT FUNDING – This item was tabled.

• ASBESTOS/BOILER REMOVAL – This item was tabled.

• EXTRA DUTY STIPENDS – This item was tabled for annual review in June of each year.

• EMPLOYMENT – All other positions were tabled.

NEW BUSINESS

• GYM USE – Richter made the motion to allow the gym to be schedule for use by groups other than school teams. Winterbottom made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor. A sanitation schedule will be prepared by Mr. Toeben for each group using the gym.

• KITCHEN EQUIPMENT - Boeckmann made the motion to purchase the freezer unit from Top Shop with installation by Albers HVAC. Richter made the second motion. Roll call votes shows: June, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye.

• AUDIT - This item was tabled.

• TAX LEVY – Mr. Toeben shared some preliminary information.

• BOARD POLICY REGARDING COMMENTS AT MEETINGS – Policy 2:230 was reviewed.

• BOWLING – The Mike Gebke foundation is willing to sponsor a junior high bowling team this school year. Matches and practices would be at Bartelso Bowling Alley. Wuebbels made the motion to start bowling for junior high students. Jung made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Mr. Toeben shared information regarding items on the agenda.

• A thank you was received from Mrs. Rochelle Halstead for flowers from her mother’s funeral.

• Parent Teacher Conferences are this week.

• The Teacher’s Inservice is Friday and will be at Central High School in the morning and Albers in the afternoon for a Chromebook presentation.

• eLearning on snow days was discussed. Jung made the motion to approve the eLearning policy. Winterbottom made the second motion. Voice vote shows all present in favor.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Winterbottom made a motion to enter into the executive session at 8:27 PM to discuss a student. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call shows: Athmer, absent; Boeckmann, present; Huegen, present; Jung, present; Richter, present; Winterbottom, present; Wuebbels, present. Mr. Toeben was also present.

Jung made a motion to exit the executive session at 8:50 PM. Winterbottom made the second motion. Roll call shows: Boeckmann, aye; Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, absent.

ADJOURNMENT

Winterbottom made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:51 PM. Wuebbels made the second motion. Roll call shows: Huegen, aye; Jung, aye; Richter, aye; Winterbottom, aye; Wuebbels, aye; Athmer, absent, Boeckmann, aye.
