VI. ONGOING BUSINESS
1. Amtrak Station Improvements
i. The Commission decided to prioritize an updated map of the city & downtown on the Amtrak sign, next was landscaping, then a mural, interior, and security. We will see how much remains in the line item after those first three items. The Commission agreed to see if any of the returning plants in the planter return, and if they do not return, we should consider an alternative to greenery/flowers in those planters. Those alternatives could be an art sculpture or lamp or the wind turners that people put in their yards. Sonya suggested that we utilize mulch around the building rather than stone or adding more plants. Terri suggested the Light & Lens Club at the cultural society may be willing to donate photos for the interior. Also, Mike mentioned that the museum could have some photos we could get reprinted and hung in the interior. Marcus mentioned that he has done this before for the Chamber, and that the museum is willing, and the cost isn’t too burdensome. The contents of the sign were discussed as consisting of a map of the city & map of downtown. Rob mentioned that we need the contents to be evergreen as things change so much around town. Melissa mentioned a potential electronic sign that scrolls, but the other Commissioners mentioned it had been discussed prior but was expensive. Mike mentioned that we could get one of those fun cartoon-like maps. Marcus stated the Chamber had one made before and that he should have a contact for it. Rae mentioned that we could utilize wood panels to hang on the station that would have the mural & could be changed any years.
2. Annual Event Calendar
i. Derek wanted to double check that we had all the updated information for the Mardi Gras event & Gaetti baseball tournaments coming up. Mike asked if this would go to ILSouth, and Derek said he intends to send them all the events we are aware of now. Additionally, Terri & Rob mentioned the upcoming cultural society events and provided Derek the flyers. Mike mentioned that the Summer Series will mostly be in June with a little in July, and after August there will be no carillon until the clappers finish getting replaced.
VII. NEW BUSINESS
1. ILSouth ADs
i. Derek asked the Commission if the ILSouth AD for Spring/Summer should contain the same content and same size. The Commission agreed that the AD content should stay the same, but that we should decrease our AD size to a quarter page.
