City of Centralia Cemetery Advisory Commission met March 8

City of Centralia Cemetery Advisory Commission met March 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I. Call to Order: 12:08 P.M.

II. Approval of Previous Minutes 

• November 9, 2022 – Macz wanted to amend the agenda to add the discussion of the fee increase. Otherwise, there were no other corrections to the minutes.

III. Public Participation 

IV. Treasurers Report – Elmwood Cemetery report – Motion made to approve the Treasurers Report 1st Schilling 2nd Macz. All voted in favor.

V. Ongoing Business - None 

VI. New Business 

a. Annual Removal of Memorial Items – April 4th

i. Summer help is coming in to get this done and other maintenance duties.

b. Memorial Day Service

i. It was stated that they wanted to defer to the Veteran’s Affairs Commission and provide support, but they did like last year’s program. They wanted to make sure there is tent and chairs provided at the event. Macz said making sure a tent and chairs are present isn’t too difficult and Macz funeral home will provide them. Volunteers to get the flags put into the ground will be needed this year again. The plan is to get the flags put in the ground a few days before Memorial Day Service in the morning and pick them up the Tuesday morning after Memorial Day.

c. Cemetery Managers Report

i. Terry said all the signs were posted on the building and as your getting onto Lincoln. Terry said you should be able to read it from your vehicle. Additionally, they took out 15 trees total and are still working on cleaning up the fallen trees. There is a brand-new mower coming for public properties. The Kubota purchase wasn’t approved during the budget process, but staff stated that it can be brought up again and we might have better luck getting it approved. The initial quote was roughly $16,600, but that has expired and is expected to be increased. However, if purchased it will be kept at the cemetery for cemetery use only according to the public property’s director. The public properties director mentioned a plan to start repairing the roads at the cemetery is being started. Collins mentioned there is still drainage issues and Terry mentioned he has two more drainage systems to get installed.
