City of Centralia City Council met June 13.

A Public Hearing was held to discuss and report outcomes and provide interested parties an opportunity to express their views on the program activities and performance of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Downstate Small Business Stabilization (DSBS) grants funded through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. City Manager William K. Smith called the public hearing to order at 10:02 a.m.

Economic Development Director Sherman stated that the purpose of the public hearing was to report outcomes and provide interested parties an opportunity to express their views on the program activities and performance of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Downstate Small Business Stabilization (DSBS) grants funded through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. There were no public comments.
Economic Development Director Sherman gave a brief synopsis of the grant. He stated that the funds were provided to the City for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Downstate Small Business Stabilization (DSBS) grants funded through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. He stated that this grant was awarded to address the needs of the business due to the COVID-19 emergency in the amount of $25,000.00. He stated that it was awarded to Marilyn’s Downtown Lounge, Inc. He stated that the funds were utilized to assist with working capital needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Derek Sherman stated that all funds have been expended and they have utilized the funds to continue operations. He noted that they are still open today and continue to be in business. He stated that the funds were sufficient and successful at accomplishing the retention of a business throughout COVID-19. Mr. Sherman asked if there were any other comments or questions.
With no other comments or further discussion, the public hearing was adjourned by City Manager Smith at 10:05 a.m.
