City of Salem Historical Commission met June 20.

CALL TO ORDER
The Historical Commission met at the Salem Area Historical Museum. Luke Purcell called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the presence of commission members Betty Purcell, Don Mills, Diane Eller, Mark Larimer, Councilman Jim Koehler and recording Secretary Cindy Eller.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Don Mills made a motion to approve the minutes. Diane Eller seconded the motion. All members present were in favor and the motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT
The Treasurer’s report provided by the City of Salem Finance Director, Keli Barrow, was reviewed by members.

None
BUSINESS
Councilman Jim Koehler told the Commission that he was waiting on the carpenters to start work on the Bryan Home but the painters will likely not start until Fall. Koehler commented that the buntings look good on the Bryan Home and he had not done anything on the lights in the downtown windows. Koehler told the Commission that he planned to attend Scope Festival which is before the next regular monthly meeting. Koehler also noted that he had check with the City Attorney about receipts for donations and was told the Historical could just write up a receipt for the value of the donation.
COMMISSION MEMBER’S REPORT
Diane Eller reported that plans are going well for the Cemetery Tour with most of the acting spots filled.
Betty Purcell reported she is staying very busy with donations. Purcell told the Commission that Myron Lloyd has a chair that belonged to Dutch Hilderford, along with a straw hat and a pair of wooden shoes that he want to donate to the museum. After discussion, it was determined that the Historical Board would accept this donation. Purcell stated that they have an average of 2 – 3 visitors on Saturdays but would like to continue to see if it increases.
