City of Centralia Parks & Cemetery Advisory Committee met June 9

City of Centralia Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee met June 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Agee, Border, Garrett, and Lawson

CRC Ex Director Germann

CRC – Allen

City – Harting

Youth – Williams

Absent: Patton, Graham and Young

Public Participation: None

Approval of Minutes: Dave Agee made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and Ricky Garrett seconded. Motion carried with unanimously.

Treasurers Report: Report was given by Harting. Gayla reported that only interest was added to both accounts. Butch Border made motion to accept the report and Ricky Garrett seconded. Motion passed.

Monthly Reports:

1. CRD report

a. Scott Allen presented CRD report on the number of registrations id 304 participates which calculates into 12 various teams.

b. Scott Allen reported to the board that the season will begin on June7th. T-ball will be every Wednesday, Pinto will be on Tuesday and Fridays, 3/4 will be on Thursdays and Monday night is the 5/6ths.

c. Scott reported that Fall Ball classic dates are August 27th and 28th. Currently 3 schools have committed to the tournament and would like to have 6 teams for both baseball and softball.

d. The High School Sectionals went very well. Coach Reagan did an outstanding job and was great working with her.

e. Scott reported that July 16th is when we will be hosting the USA AAA tournament.

f. Scott presented fliers for 4 different leagues that will be offered at Fairview Park.

2. Youth Center

a. Herb reported still have Day camp for 4 weeks this summer. The camp will be 20th – 24th, June 27-31st, July 18-22 Basketball Camp, and July 25-29 will be the last week of Camp.

b. Juneteenth will be held on June 18th. Have 36 vendors, Hot Air Balloon, and many activities. The event is from 1pm to 8pm.

c. Finishing the outdoor Basketball goals with 1 of them being a glass backboard.

d. Herb reported that they will be cutting in a baseball diamond in the back of Youth Center.

e. The Youth Center will be sponsoring a Flag football team this fall through the Clinton County League.

3. City Report

a. Gayla reminded the Board that we will be cooking hotdogs at the Juneteenth event at 1pm. Butch, Calvin and Rick will be there to assist.

b. Gayla reported that there has been some vandalism on the picnic tables. They have been repaired and hope the vandalism will stop.

c. Gayla reported that the City Manager is not going to provide a written financial report.

d. Gayla reported that individuals have asked about new playground equipment for Laura Leeke Park. Gayla suggested that we come up with a plan of what equipment and ideas. Ricky asked what year the city put in the last playground equipment and Gayla answered she was not sure but would check into the time.

Ricky Garrett made the motion to adjourn, and Butch Border seconded the motion. The motion carried.

The next meeting will be July 14th at noon hosted at the Rail.

Goals and Responsibilities of Parks and Recreation Committee

1. Recommendations of purchasing/replacing/removing of Playground equipment at all Parks.

2. Oversee the Tennis courts, Basketball courts, Skateboard Park, Horseshoe pits, Swimming pool and Pavilions at all Parks.

3. Oversee improvements at Laura Leeke Park, Fairview Park, Band Shell, Youth Center, Point Park at Raccoon Lake, and Dog Park.

4. Review and recommend any upgrades for All Parks.

5. Juneteenth Celebration
