Illinois State Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) has thrown his support behind Rep. Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) who wants to represent the 118th district for another term in the state House.

In a statement shared by Jacobs, Wilhour said Jacobs had "a proven conservative record" and called his colleague a "dedicated public servant."

"I am proud to have the support of my good friend and fellow Southern Illinois Republican State Representative Blaine Wilhour in my race for re-election," Jacobs wrote in an October 9 Facebook post. "Blaine is a strong advocate for the conservative agenda, and fights to protect life, and our Second Amendment Rights. Thank you Blaine!"

According to the Illinois House website, Jacobs was first elected in 2020. He serves on several committees including the Tourism and Higher Education committees. Jacobs defeated his challenger Aaron Smith during the June Republican primary with more than 68% of the vote, the Carbondale Reporter reported. He is running unopposed in the upcoming November election.

Prior to the primary, Jacobs gained the endorsement of the Associated Builders and Contractors of Illinois, according to the Carbondale Reporter. Jacobs was happy to gain the organization's support and said he was "proud to have built a record" as a lawmaker that proves he supports the building trades.

According to the Carbondale Reporter, Jacobs also received an endorsement from the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois back in May. Jacobs also vowed to "continue to stand up for those who risk so much to protect us."
