City of Centralia Tourism Commission met Aug. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I. CALL TO ORDER- Roach, Chair – Call to Order at 5:02PM

III. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION – None

IV. MINUTES –

May 17th, 2022 – Motion to approve 1st Walsh and 2nd Cooney. All members present voted yes in favor of approving the minutes with none opposed.

V. TREASURER’S REPORT – Walsh - Motion to approve 1st Schroeder and 2nd Cooney. All members present voted yes in favor of approving the minutes with none opposed.

VI. ONGOING BUSINESS

1. Status of the Trolley & Trolley Committee

i. The Commission members requested city staff to ask SCT if the Trolley was repaired enough to run around town. City staff stated they would find out and provide an update to the Commission.

2. Fall Event Planning – Celebrate Centralia

i. Entertainment – Report

1. Shannon reported that Twisted Road has been booked for the entirety of the event and will be providing their production for the event. A motion from Nix-Coleman to approve the cost of the band for $3,750 and seconded by Davis; all present voted in favor to approve

the application packets.

ii. Marketing – Report

1. Melissa suggested getting sponsorships for the marketing budget as the marketing budget seems small. The Commission wanted Derek to contact local media outlets for advertising and to utilize the discount from ILSouth Tourism. Additionally, the Commission voted on

a new flyer for this year to give it a little update.

iii. Vendors – Report

1. The members discussed increasing the fees for both craft & food vendors; it was determined to keep fees the same this year. However, it was suggested to increase the vendor fees for all city events next year. The reasoning is that the Commission wants the streets filled this year, and for future years. Additionally, the members want to have the ability to grow the event through increased revenue for future events. The members had a few edits to the application specifically the address and parking. A motion was made by Finn to approve the vendor applications with suggested changes and seconded by Walsh; all present voted in favor voted to approve the application packets.

iv. Government – Report

1. Derek reported that the street closure passed the council. Shannon mentioned getting more tables and trashcans for the event. Derek will have a meeting with public properties to discuss power for vendors.

VII. NEW BUSINESS

1. Out Boo Your Neighbor

i. Commission suggested marketing in September and announcing the winners at Celebrate Centralia. We will do a sign for Out-Boo Winners and purchase additional yard signs to showcase who is participating. Mary suggested making participants come to city hall to pick up their yard signs for the contest. Additionally, we may need an alternate pickup for people that can’t make it to city hall.

IX. ADJOURNMENT - Motion to approve 1st Nix-Coleman and 2nd Schroeder. All members present voted yes in favor of adjourning with none opposed.
