Baseball drops road matchup 6-4 at Rose-Hulman

The baseball team traveled to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday afternoon for a game scheduled to help replace last weekend's washout against Loras. Despite trailing the entire game, the Panthers managed to bring the tying run to the plate in their final at bat before falling 6-4 to the Engineers.

Greenville's Luke Fleener drew the starting pitching assignment for GU, and he worked three innings, only permitting one run on one hit and two walks. He struck out two.

Braden Maltbie relieved Fleener in the fourth inning and gave up two runs over two innings. Ian Wilson worked the sixth and seventh innings and surrendered three runs in the sixth inning.

Craig Oertel provided a scoreless eighth inning in relief.

Greenville received two runs in the fifth inning to cut their deficit to 3-2 and later added two runs in the ninth inning rally.

Landon Mokris drove in two runs for the Panthers with an RBI double in the fifth inning and an RBI groundout in the ninth.

Trent Morgenstern drove in a run with a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth inning.

Snyder Pennington produced a second scoring opportunity for the Panthers in the ninth inning when he hit a ball to the shortstop that was misplayed and a run crossed the plate.

With S. Pennington on first base, Logan Doll came to the plate as the tying run with two outs before he was retired on strikes to end the game.

George Schneider and Mokris each had two hits for GU, and Schneider scored two runs.

Drew Frey, Rhett Pennington, Jacob Sutton, and Tanner Gerdes also hit safely for Greenville. Sutton's hit was a double. Frey and Gerdes each scored one run.

The Panthers (2-4) will play their final games before Spring Break when Wisconsin-Platteville visits Robert E. Smith Field on Friday, March 10, for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
