Southwestern Community Unit School District 9 Board of Education met Nov. 14.

The Southwestern Board of Education members met for a special session on November 14, 2023, at 7 pm at the Middle School Commons in Piasa, Illinois. Jason Oertel-President, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Roll call showed those members present as: Jenny Hanks, Donna Loy, Jason Oertel, Jacob Reno, Andrew Ruyle, Brad Schuchman, and Nicholas Strohbeck. Bob Ruyle and Kevin Constable, Co
Maintenance Directors, and Steven Spencer, River County News were also present. Jason Oertel-President led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comment: No public comment.
A lengthy discussion was held regarding the future facilities improvements for the district. A short tour of the high school and middle school was taken again to confirm logistics. Dr. Kevin Bowman recommended roof projects to be done in the summer of 2024 as well as beginning with updating part of the high school bathrooms and middle school bathroom. Several recommendations were discussed.
Jason Oertel made a motion to approve the facilities plan for 2024, 2025, and 2026 subject to change based on finances, need(s), scheduling, etc. Nicholas Strohbeck seconded the motion that was made. Roll Call Vote:
Ayes: Loy, Oertel, Reno, Ruyle, Schuchman, Strohbeck, and Hanks
Nays: None
MOTION CARRIED.
Kohl Wholesale submitted the lowest bid for a new dishwasher at Brighton North Primary. Nicholas Strohbeck made a motion to approve the bid submitted by Kohl Wholesale for a new dishwasher at Brighton North with Andrew Ruyle seconding the motion.

Ayes: Oertel, Reno, Ruyle, Schuchman, Strohbeck, and Hanks
Nays: None
MOTION CARRIED.
Andrew Ruyle made a motion to adjourn the meeting with Donna Loy seconding adjournment. Roll Call Vote:
Ayes: Reno, Ruyle, Schuchman, Strohbeck, Hanks, and Oertel
Nays: None
