Senator Plummer has called for greater transparency on the spending of Illinois tax dollars on migrant services amidst Governor JB Pritzker's proposed tax hikes. Plummer emphasized, "The people of Illinois deserve to know how much of their tax dollars are being spent on migrant services, especially when the Governor is trying to raise their taxes by $1 billion."
Additionally, Senator Plummer expressed support for maps drawn by independent commissions, stating, "I support maps drawn by independent commissions as they do in many other states, rather than politicians influenced by special interest groups."
In a unique turn of events, elementary students from the Prairie School of DuPage actively participated in advancing legislation by helping to pass a bill designating the Calvatia Gigantea as the official state mushroom. Student Charlotte DiGangi shared her inspiration behind the initiative, saying, "We were talking about all of the different state symbols, and I asked if there was a state mushroom. I said we should have a state mushroom and now here we are."
The Illinois Senate Republican Caucus has also been celebrating Women's History Month, recognizing the achievements of women throughout history. The caucus highlighted historical figures such as Lottie Holman O’Neill, the first woman elected to the Illinois General Assembly, and former Senator Christine Radogno, who served as Minority Leader from 2009 to 2017.
As the month of March continues, Senate Republicans are actively advocating for fiscal transparency, fair representation, and the recognition of women's achievements in Illinois.
