State Senator Jason Plummer | Illinois General Assembly
State Senator Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) expressed strong criticism following the quick approval of Senate Bill 2412 on May 2, 2024. Plummer condemned the bill as he accused the majority party of engaging in partisan tactics that undermine democracy and disregard the voters' will in the Metro East region.
In a statement, Senator Plummer stated, “This is one more move in a recent strategy of partisan power grabs by the majority party who want to subvert the democratic process by ignoring the will of the voters in the Metro East." He further criticized the majority party for resorting to gerrymandering and rewriting election laws when dissatisfied with election outcomes.
Plummer highlighted the severity of the situation by pointing out that the changes proposed in the bill are being pushed in the middle of an ongoing election cycle. He described the move as "just another purely partisan power grab by the super majority party to try to stack the deck against the will of the voters." Plummer concluded by denouncing the actions of the majority party as "one of the most devious and undemocratic ploys" he has witnessed, accusing them of being focused on serving special interests and showing disdain for the average Illinoisan.
