Illinois State House District 95 candidate Mike Coffey stated, "On July 1st, Illinois will see several new laws that go into effect." He made the statement in a June 13 Facebook post.
"On July 1st, Illinois will see several new laws that go into effect," said Mike Coffey, Jr, according to Facebook.
In his Facebook post, Coffey shared a link to a KSDK.com report on the various laws that will go into effect next month. According to the report, these include a law that will give immigrants a standard four-year license after they pass a driving test, provide proof of residency in Illinois for a year or longer, and provide proof of auto insurance. Another new law is the Freelance Worker Protection Act, which will punish those who don’t pay contractors on time, offer protections from discrimination for freelancers, and establish a formal complaint procedure.

The third law highlighted in the report ensures child labor laws apply to youths under the age of 16 who engage in "vlogging" if 30% or more of their compensated video produced in a 30-day period includes their likeness, name, or photograph and meets payment thresholds.
The Illinois General Assembly’s Legislative Information System reveals nine new laws that go into effect on July 1. These include the bills mentioned above as well as changes to the Community Behavioral Health Care Professional Loan Repayment Program (Senate Bill 0057), a bill clarifying documentation for standard identification (House Bill 03882), changes to school district-administered assessments (Senate Bill 01993), a bill regarding electronic records of controlled substances (Senate Bill 00285), an appropriations bill for the 2024-2025 fiscal year (Public Act 103-0589), and a bill for finance fund transfers for the 2024-2025 fiscal year (Public Act 103-0591).
Coffey Jr. was appointed to fill the vacancy left when Rep. Tim Butler retired in 2023. Coffey is a lifelong Springfield resident, restaurant owner, and graduate of the University of Illinois. In his first term, he served on several committees including Public Safety Appropriations; Cybersecurity, Data Analytics and Information Technology; Housing; Public Utilities; State Government Administration; and Veterans’ Affairs.
