FOIA Request to City Of Carlinville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Collected from Retailers on October 25, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Carlinville Finance Department.
The request specifically asks for records of sales tax collected from retailers starting from January 1, 2024 till the present date. We have asked for these records in electronic format and with specific fields such as the amount of sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected amounts, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.
Access to public records is crucial for us at South Central Reporter as it allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver.
We await response from the City Of Carlinville Finance Department and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
