FOIA Request Sent to City Of Taylorville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Taylorville Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Central Reporter have submitted a request for public records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

Our request is specifically aimed at obtaining sales tax records collected from retailers from January 1, 2024, up until the present date. We are seeking detailed information including monthly sales tax collected versus projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to keep you updated on any developments regarding this request.
