FOIA Request to City Of Vandalia Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024. As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City Of Vandalia Finance Department in Illinois.
The request specifically seeks records pertaining to sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 2024 till the present date. We have asked for these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of access and analysis.
In particular, we are interested in three key data points: the amount of sales tax collected from retailers by month compared with projected figures; the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month; and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.
We believe that access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
As always, we remain committed to serving our readers with timely and accurate information about local government affairs. We will continue to keep you updated as this story develops.
