A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Carlinville City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by South Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we sought detailed information about all current council members. Specifically, we asked for a list that includes each member's name, title, year of appointment, term length (2 or 4 years), and term expiration date.
As journalists at South Central Reporter, we are committed to gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that our role in disseminating information qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. We eagerly await the response from the Carlinville City Council as we continue our mission of keeping our readers informed about their local government.
