FOIA Request to Girard City Council Regarding Council Members' Details on October 15, 2024.
We at South Central Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Girard City Council in Illinois. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our team is seeking information regarding the current city council members. Specifically, we requested an electronic list of all council members with the following fields: Name, Title, Year Appointed, Term (2 or 4 years), and Term Expire Date.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
