A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Hillsboro City Council in Illinois, seeking detailed information about its council members on October 15, 2024. The request was made by South Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we at South Central Reporter asked for a list of all council members with specific details including their names, titles, year they were appointed, term length (2 or 4 years), and the date their term expires.
As journalists committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This information will enable us to provide accurate reporting on the city council's composition and tenure.
We have also requested a fee waiver as part of this FOIA request given our role as a media organization disseminating important information to the public. We are now awaiting a response from the Hillsboro City Council regarding this matter.
