FOIA Request Sent to City Of Litchfield Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the City Of Litchfield Finance Department on October 25, 2024. The request was made by South Central Reporter, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically asked for records related to sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 204 until the present date. The requested information includes detailed data such as sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected amounts, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported monthly.

South Central Reporter emphasized that access to public records is essential for fulfilling its professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, South Central Reporter believes it is eligible for a fee waiver under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.

The City Of Litchfield Finance Department has yet to respond to this request. As we continue our mission of promoting transparency in local government affairs, we eagerly await their response.
