A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Carlyle City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at South Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request sought detailed information about the council members. Specifically, we asked for a list of all council members with specific fields including their names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to such public records is essential. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with this commitment, we requested that the information be provided preferably in an electronic format for ease of dissemination. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also stated our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await the response from the Carlyle City Council and look forward to sharing this information with our readers as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping them informed about local government affairs.
