FOIA Request to City Of Salem Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Central Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140). The request specifically pertains to sales tax collected from retailers since the start of the year until the present date.
The requested information includes details such as the amount of sales tax collected from retailers by month compared to projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.
We believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have also sought a fee waiver for this request.
